South Africa Western Cape Cape Town

Lion's Head

Iconic peak adjacent to Table Mountain renowned for hiking trails and panoramic views of the city and Atlantic seaboard.

Tips from the community

Getting up early on a Sunday morning isn’t everyone’s idea of the perfect weekend break, but I promise it is worth it. Lion’s Head is one of the quintessential hikes in Cape Town, and it’ll give you the best vista in town. Tie on some comfortable shoes and bring your camera. From the summit, you’ll get stunning views of the city bowl, the Twelve Apostles, Table Mountain and the ocean below. It’s not a particularly challenging hike, but it is a long one so bring along water, especially in the warmer months. Plan on spending around two to three hours hiking.

This giant, unique outcrop offers 360-degree views of Table Mountain, the Atlantic Seaboard, Camps Bay, the City Bowl, and Robben Island. Lion’s Head, located next to Signal Hill, peaks at 669 metres above the sea level. The 2.6 mile Lion’s Head Trail loop is moderately rated, heavily trafficked, and guarantees to leave you speechless.
